Apoquel update:
After the first two weeks of twice-a-day dosing and almost unbelievable success, we reduced the dose to once a day as instructed. Just as quickly as we saw miracle results, we saw regression. One dose a day only gave Cinco 12 hours of complete relief, followed by 12 hours of itching. We continued this way for nearly two weeks until I gave the Derm vet a call to discuss. He immediately agreed that we could continue on twice a day dosing. So that's the plan.
While this means we will be paying for two doses of medicine a day instead of one, it is worth it to me for Cinco to be comfortable.
Apoquel was used on test subjects at 5x label dosing without negative effects, so I'm okay with this extra dose (as is the Derm vet). That, and the fact that the med is reversible. There's no "build up" in the system. So if at any point we need to discontinue the med, it's all gone from the body within a few hours anyway.
So there you go. One dog's experience. It's a highly effective itch medicine for Cinco, with no side effects...but the miracle only lasts 12 hours per dose for him.

Drat! I was hoping one work Tracy! Well, we have our appointment to get started on it January 30th. We'll try it, but if we have to do 2 a day, we won't be able to afford it - it would cost us $128 and month here.
I hope one works!!!! But I'm so glad Cinco isn't itchy anymore!!!
