To be walking home from the store and see that the young man walking up ahead is marker-training his young ACD? And the dog is looking up at him so happily and eagerly while he fishes out his reward ....
He was struggling a bit with his baggie in his down jacket, but I caught up and told him about the LB Snap-Open Bait Bag.
It was just nice to see a stranger on the street doing a great job of marker training and his young dog doing so well.

it ain't just us connie . . . there's others out there lol
Theoretically, I knew this.
But aside from the two clubs we (my dogs and I) belong to, and the other dogs I train, I've never actually seen a stranger around town marker training.
Even as I was smiling and thinking "Wow, this is cool!" I was also thinking "Why have I never run into a marker trainer training in public?"
Now that you say this, I never see anybody doing marker training either. they must hide!? Maybe in the pet store with clicker training, but then outside the pet store, I never notice anybody. And I am out quite often ...
I've started a number of people in my area on markers.
I live on a corner lot so my back yard is very small. My front and side yard are pretty good size so a lot of my training is done on the side yard.
Lots of dog walkers in the area and they often will stop to watch and ask questions.
I've considered doing free classes just for neighborhood folks but a lot of the furbaby folks frustrate the **** out of me because they don't believe in NOT spoiling the crap out of their babies.
The few that I have worked with are the ones that really want to learn and not just "Yes but" me to death or refuse to believe their dogs aren't people.
there are a few peeps in my circle who have embraced the idea of marker training , but i'm not sure they have truly grasped the actual physics of doing it .
and to be honest , despite all the reading and studying the dvds , i didn't really have a good handle on it until i attended ME's school . to this day , i still catch myself making handler errors , inconsistencies , and having unrealistic expectations .
I've only ever seen a stranger use marker training (and it was a clicker) ONCE outside of clicker training classes at Petsmart.
The dog was a low drive Smooth Collie, being trained for service work by a professional trainer using the petstore for distraction proofing (as I was doing).

I suspect all of us will be staring up at six feet of dirt before we no longer make handler errors, inconsistencies and unrealistic expectations.
It sure is refreshing to stumble upon someone who actually is trying to do the right thing and properly train their dog. Sadly, I hardly see it. I have never run into anyone in our community who has heard of marker training and I get the most curious looks when I mention it.
In all fairness, though, I have to confess I had never heard of it either until we got Bailey and we got serious about dog training. The trainer we used who taught me about obedience training employed many of the same principles of marker training without actually calling it that. It wasn't until I got on this website that I finally saw and read the actual articles about marker training and things just took off from there.
