So I am super proud of this little video!
Back story: This dog is the smartest dog I have ever owned, and is recognized as pretty amazing among friends and fellow handlers. However, this dog WOULD NOT retrieve to save her life. She wouldn't have anything to do with the dumbbell, at all, ever. No matter how many training sessions, no matter how much shaping, marking, rewarding - she just hated it.
Well we went a little "old school" in the training - worked backwards to marker training, and Voila! She now LOVES her dumbbell, loves retrieving and will retrieve anything, anytime, anywhere and over any obstacle.
So this last year, at 3 years old, she earned her IPO 1 & 2 with perfect scores on her retrieves for the IPO 1. (Handler error on IPO 2 retrieves that caused some point loss, oops!)
Check out the video and let me know what you think! (I linked it to my blog page, since I can't get it to directly link, it says the video is from youtube, but on my blog it is not posted as such...admin let me know if this is ok)

Thanks everyone! Dear lord was it ever a process - in the last 12 months I have noticed so much more that she actually finds a lot of joy in retrieving and actually builds drive the more challenging the retrieves get. I actually almost cried when I finally realized that the work (MY blood, sweat and tears) had all paid off - I love that feeling
