Mod note:
(Hi, Ang! The ongoing multi-member training threads are open to all, but aren't really for asking for advice. It's a way for members to log their work, and also for other members to be inspired and encouraged.
So I'll move this to a thread where readers will know that requests for help are included.
Here's your new thread:

This last week, Duke has been learning how the e-collar works for recall - paging used as a recall from a distance. He gives the most enthusiastic recall to get his Zukes His real reward (and ours) was getting to hang out in the front yard with us offleash during yard work time.
He also let himself out of his crate this weekend while I took the kids to the park and did a middling job behaving himself.. left a piece of pizza on the counter but the box that had previously contained some raw meat was certainly knocked over and rifled through.
Chance showed off his new leash skills at the vet's office this morning for drop-off - last time I brought him in, he was hanging himself by pushing forward (literally bringing his own feet off the ground and standing on his back legs ) this time he was very nicely attentive to leash pressure and leave-its and we walked into the office with no struggle. Pretty good for a boy going crazy on crate rest! The bad side - he had decided that since he was so darned bored he was going to bark every time we crated Duke up (His thoughts: I will guard my crate if I have nothing else to do!) I'm rather certain that after this round of immiticide he's going to be feeling so low that he'll forget about that rather quickly. Looking forward to getting back to work with them both.

Pretty good indeed!
Ignore me if I missed this, but are you doing plenty of "think" games and exercises?

I'm thinking too that a dog confined to a crate may view it more and more as important territory to protect.

Lots of frozen kongs, PB/cream cheese stuffed bones, marker training for treats a couple of times a day, NILIF, etc etc. Other suggestions are welcome
He's feeling pretty quiet right now but enjoyed the car ride.. I wonder if car rides count as 'strict confinement'?

Car rides are GOOD. Is he harnessed and attached to a seat belt, or crated but able to see?
IMHO, a dog who is staring eagerly out the window at the passing scenery is still under confinement.
Does he bark, bounce, try to race back and forth?
If not, I'd be loading him up for bye-bye twice a day or more!

Harnessed and tethered with his nose stuck as far out the window as he can get (I don't let the dogs get their whole head out there, I get too nervous) No barking, just some butt shuffling and staring at all the cars. Load the dogs in the car and go for a lunch ride! yeah!

TOADALLY!
Ever had surgery that made you have bed-rest? Going for a ride in the car was not only a major joy, what with the change of scenery, but it was also TIRING!

Laddy the English Shepherd, at 80 lbs now, a huge collie, is learning not to chase cars. When the propane man came, Lad ran to the HOUSE and came inside -- a major improvement. Eat a milk bone and relax, the propane man will leave soon.......I also called him off a truck today that visited, and he didn't bark at another fellow who came either, a man who buys hay, comes 2-3 times a month.
When the electric line guys came to walk the line he wanted to eat them......but that's ok. I was able to call him off.
So progress is happening.

Ditto!
The smaller the area to "guard" the more intense the dog will become.
I use the word "guard" but more then not it's simple barrier aggression.
