The arson dog is one that probably requires the most extensive and constant training because their meals are usually given in training situations only . That's one bit of food for each "find".
You can teach most any dog to find things in a house or yard. The key is to have a dog that will look for very long periods with out a find.
ALL detection work requires a special sort of dog. The "hunt drive" is primary and that's inborn in the right dog. Without it the dog will become bored when it doesn't make a quick find.

Yeah I wish I could have him evaluated I guess to see if he would be good for it, I mean my understanding is "nosework" can be trained to any dog at all. Which would be great! He's got a strong ball drive, at least what I would think is - you pull the ball out and he locks his eyes on it, throw the ball and he's off like a bat out of hell!
