It's much better, using your method Bob - and he DID pick up his feet today. He also bit the towel -- as though he was pretending to "hit" it, but dropped it right away, on command.

The towel bite could be a bit of redirected aggression. He know not to snap at you so he'll show his distaste by biting the towel. That should fade once he gets it in his head that the presence of the towel is the cue for good things to happen.
You could even add that his neutral contact with the towel can be rewarded. A sniff, the towel placed on his face, whatever. It's about neutralizing any negative behavior towards the towel.
You can obviously wean him off of most mark and reward but no need to give up 'random" mark and reward.
Markers Training, in a sense is no different then using just compulsion training. There will always be a need to re enforce behaviors in BOTH methods.
Also, markers with reward doesn't mean eliminating corrections if need for rude behavior. To many today don't understand that.
