Garrett sounds like a wonderful "learning experience". He hit the lottery and had a great home for 13 long years. So hard to lose them no matter how long it's been. Run free at the Bridge Sweet Garrett! Hugs to you CJ.
So sorry CJ. 13 years is a tribute to your care and love for him. I'm glad you were able to spend his last days doing things you both enjoy. He was happy and ready to go; nothing says "Good Life" better than that.
I am so sorry for your loss. 13 years is such a long time to create great memories, although I'm sure it went by in a flash. Run fast and free Garrett...
So sorry for your loss, CJ. It's so hard to lose them, no matter the age. Remember what you said to me when we lost Faith? With so many beautiful souls in it's midst, how bad can death really be? I've thought of those words so many times since Faith... and they give me strength to carry on. I hope I can pass some of that strength back to you.
Paul and I lost our Shyner in March. She would have been 13 on the first of June. It was a difficult day... week.... month... I have leaned on friends, and the rest of the pack heavily...
Take care, CJ. Hugs to all who loved Garrett. He is with Edward now, and waiting patiently for you to get to the Bridge.
Rest in Peace, Handsome Garrett. You will be missed by all who loved you, and will never be forgotten.
Tribute To A Best Friend
author unknown
Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound....
then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can't be yours....
your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.
And yes, I remember losing Faith. It was like many of us lost her. She belonged to no one yet found her way into so many of our hearts.
And yes, Edward's death had me reaching anywhere I could to find peace and he finally sent those words. They are comforting.
With Garrett it's been tough but he sent a lot of peace the next day. We knew what a struggle life was for him but he showed no signs of giving up. The way he died...one minute looking up, then the scream (I'm taking that as a painful, but necessary "Good Bye"), and then just the empty shell of a body... it took away the even more painful decision that Bob and I knew would have to made more sooner than later.
I truly believe it was his time and his choice to go and I can't help but respect that. We are just so grateful for the incredible joy he brought to our lives and everything he taught us.
Big, big, BIG lesson I learned from him: Even if you fall down and fall down again, keep getting right back up, shake it off, race back to the pack and carry on. And if you're feeling a little unsteady and a friend's nearby, lean on them.
His life was destined to stumble and tumble thru and he chose to feel really good about it. Every one of his missteps were all part of his dance and he danced it so well.
Yeah, that boy taught us a lot. We miss you Gare Bear.
Thank you all so very much for your heartfelt condolences. Each and every one is so very appreciated.
