I have a small terrier(Norfolk) with very high food drive, actually food amps her up very high. I have not done much tugging with her and we are just starting. I have shapped her first to look at the tug and now she is biting the tug for about a one sec duration. I am in the middle of the Ellis video on tugging and so far all of the dogs in the vid already have a good tug...haven't gotten to the puppy part yet. I am not sure how to mesh the tug shaping I am doing with her into the Ellis method. Any suggestions? Our main sport is agility but we also train in rally and obed. Having a tug drive would help us in all these venues. Thanks!
Thanks for the link. I have a flirt pole around my house so I'll have to start that with her. I have had a lot of mixed breed working dogs when, in the ring, only had eyes for me. My terrier generally learned everything faster and is faster in agility. Looking back I never really proofed her as I did the others. So we have trouble at the start line. I am now back tracking with more playtime, tugging, tricks and have purchased the Ellis video on motivating with food.

I can't tell if this means "good" or "too excited."
With my dogs with insane food drive, meaning drive so high that it can make the session a little hectic, I'll often have training sessions using food AFTER their supper, where with other dogs, you might do the reverse, to enhance the food rewards' attractiveness.
