thanks bob! I was hoping that was the case, but people really try to scare you which I guess is good lol. Then again if I listened I would have not got my mal who no joke im borderline obsessed with. It would more than likely be crated when gone so just cant be a terror when at home or with my friends dogs etc. But I think I can manage it
old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown
The only dog I ever owned who I could not train around cats was a bull terrier.
This dog would kill any cat, rip it's hide off, at any opportunity outdoors. Indoors I had control but outdoors, hopeless. She did not stalk, just ambled up and killed.
Terrible with chickens, too. At one point I thought that I had her cured of chicken killing. In the barn, there was one chicken, pecking around, the bull terrier, and I had a full wheelbarrow of poo. The bull terrier seemed to be ignoring the chicken. "I don't see any chicken, I'm just dozing here." Pushed the wheelbarrow outside, came back in, there was half of a foot sticking out of the bull terrier's mouth, no lie. That was all there was left. I was gone maybe 3-4 minutes, max.
My and my brother's Bull terrier Norman was probably the least trainable dog I've ever worked with yet he was light yrs ahead of any other one I've known.
On a whim my brother took Norman to an audition for a role as Bill Sikes dog in the Oliver Twist play at the St. Louis Muny Opera.
St. Louis has a large, active BT club so there were probably 50 dogs that showed up for the audition.
The first comment by the person doing the audition was "We need dogs that can work off lead".
Norman was one of only 5-6 that didn't leave.
From there the person asked the 5-6 owners one by one to leave their dog at one end of the area and to go to the other side and call the dog.
Norman was the only dog who even stayed where he was told and he did a great recall.
Norman got the part! He almost got fired...but that's another story.
omg, I kinda like bull terriers too but found them too DA. I knew a lady who bred them and she told me this story of how the mini ones got into this huge bloody fight, sounded crazy. I love akitas and pitties too but again with the DA, although ive known many a pittie great with other dogs. My dog regularly plays with one. I need a farm so I can have 20 dogs! Damn renting in the suburbs in the most expensive city in the country!!!!
