Our 4 month old puppy still has his dew claws and i was wondering when would be a good time to have them removed? I was going to wait till we had him fixed at around 6 to 7 months old but didn't know if that was waiting to long long and would make it harder on him. Any suggestions would be helpfull. Thank You
Why does your puppy still have its dewclaws? I thought most breeders removed them as a newborn? I know that they are not needed and often get caught or torn on adult dogs. Some of the breeds that I know of that require them in a breed standard are the Beauceron and the Great Pyrenees.
Removing them while the dog is already under anesthetic for a spay/neuter is a good idea, but unlike when the puppy is a newborn the wounds will require stiches.
Yes, you are correct. According to the AKC breed standard (Oh my God! I said AKC...please don't hurt me!!! )
Anyways, according to the breed standard (reformatted in 1994) they may be removed but are normally left on.
I just adopted a 6 year old dog with all four dewclaws, he hadn't had any problems. it is probably not urgent to get them removed, I'd wait until he has to go under. we will be getting the rear dewclaws removed when he gets his teeth cleaned within a couple weeks.
You have violated the no speak A*C rule, please report to the whipping forums and submit for punishment!

The german shepherd dog should have front dew claws.. however..if he has rear dewclaws.. it would be best to have them removed when you neuter your dog.
