This doesn't really sound like silvering to me, but many of you know more about health than me.
Got a text from my son. He lives with a black MinPin. Dog is pbly 4-5 yrs. Two months ago, she developed a couple of small dry patches on a rear leg, and the hair turned white. I'm sure they din't see a vet. They shaved the patches (to treat with a topical, I'm guessing), and the hair has grown back white, just in these patches.
Anything that irritated the skin pretty seriously. Urine splash, scald. Ringworm (rare, unlikely)
Insect bites. Getting into chemicals, pool chemicals, car wash chemicals.

In addition to what Betty says, it's very vague in my memory, but I think this is one of the breeds prone to sebaceous adenitis (a kind of inherited alopecia, I believe).
Sorry, this is all very vague in my memory. I think I was looking up Min Pin health issues for someone.
But I'll look for it in my saved stuff.
You are saying actual patches, right? Not individual hairs?
