This really for Ed and Michael Ellis. I have watch Michael's remote collar dvd's and I have watched ed's remote collar for the pet owner dvd. You never came out and said it directly ed, but you did state you do not agree the escape and avoidance training with remote collars and that is what i perceived Michael ellis' training to be teaching us. I hear you speak so highly of him but what about his training method is it do you not like? If the dog knows it is coming from his handler, wouldn't it be more likely to shut him down quicker even if it is low stim? Michael's method does seem to run parallel to the old school method of correction until you do right; while your method is correct only when I am absolutely sure the dog knows what I am telling him/her to do and yet he/she still decide not to do the command. I am kinda confused and really want to get this right the first time with my shepherd. I would not want to start one way to have to start all over again. Thanks for taking the time to read this, Sam Valenza
Many escape/avoidance methods use stim to teach a behavior rather than layering it over a known command and known correction/pressure. It produces a lot more stress and is not fair to the dog.
If you've seen some of the larger electric collar franchises and the miserable dogs they produce you've seen the results of that type of training.
Michael Ellis uses it on known commands and teaches the dog how to react to pressure first.
