I have read some of the articles but I am going to reread them. Yes, for sure the collar was used wrong at the shelter. I did use it yesterday and I did give a couple gentle corrections, but I am going to do more reading before I walk him with it again. I would only use it when I am working with him, so no fears there. I have it up high behind his ears and right under his jaw, so it is fitted correctly I think. Had to take out 4 links.
I have been doing the marker training for a few days now and Hank is responding really well. Still working hard on timing but I would say I do pretty well over 90% of the time, so that is good. Things continue to improve in our relationship and I look forward to the future as we learn more and more.
One question, when you say pinch collar, is that something different than a prong collar?

Looks like things are progressing very well with you and Hank
Hey, guys, I'm back again! Just a quick question. I am ready to get another video. I think Hank and I have the pack structure down really well now, yay!, so I really want to start working on obedience and move on to the more fun stuff.
So, I am thinking of getting either the Basic Obedience video or the Marker Training Mark Ellis video. No offense to Ed, but in the short videos I am more comfortable with Ellis's videos, so I am leaning that way. But if the basic obedience is a better foundation for the marker training I will do that one first. Keeping in mind, I have adult ADHD and am easily overwhelmed by too much imput, so both is just not a good option for me.
I'd almost say skip those and go straight to The Power of Training Dogs with Food if you click with ME better. He does a quick review of marker training at the beginning.
