But back to "could've been terrible but wasn't."
I brought up this thread a bunch of dog folks on Thanksgiving, and all of their answers were stuff the dog either ate or was suspected of having eaten.
I'm looking around my house with new eyes, I tell ya!
Here is my story from many years ago:
I take a picture frame off the wall and the brass picture hook comes out of the wall and falls towards the ground. The Yorkie is right there, and catches it before it hits the ground.
I grab the Yorkie and scream for my wife.
She comes running, and we both try to pry the Yorkies mouth open, and we both see her swallowing the shiny brass hook.
While one of us is holding the dog, we put her in a carrier bag, and rush her to the vet.
First physical exam, the vet pulls the tongue out so far I couldn't believe it. He sees nothing, and we search the bag. No hook. First X-Ray, the brass should be easily to recognize, but no nothing to see. Second X-Ray nothing. No hook in bag, or on the floor at home.
Hundreds of dollars later, still no hook. Dog is still alive. I still don't know, where the hook went.

In the could have been terrible but wasn't mode-
20 years ago my nieces spent the summer with me. We bought a kid goat in the spring.
In the fall the nieces were due to leave. We found a home for the goat kid. As we pulled into the driveway of the farm where the goat was to be delivered, the goat leaned up onto the dashboard of my vet truck and ate an 18 guage unsheathed IV needle, 2 1/2 " long.
The new owners were already surrounding the vehicle.

The goat lived 10 years. Never a problem.
Yep. Goats are amazing, from what I've read and heard.
