Yeah I got the serial number from 'About this Mac' and pm'd it to Cathy, and you can see from her and Kristin's posts there is little in the way of specific information regarding what generic tools I need, Apple are reluctant to share with their customers any tools that would enable them to sort their own products out, tricky little buggers that they are hence my attempt to 'Heath Robinson' my existing micro screwdriver!
I do enjoy a challenge!
Fortunately, it was literally a drop of coffee, that dripped on the keyboard as I lifted the cup from the table, but even that drip has caused me some serious teeth grinding and deep breathing this week...
When I took the back off at the time of the initial look-see, I was mortified at the amount of dog hair on the components, but our IT chap at work told me he has found food particles, butterfly backs from earrings and fragments of fingernails on laptop gubbins he has repaired in the past!
I was mortified at the amount of dog hair on the components,
Well, I know. There is a little fan in there that keep the graphic card cool, and it work like a little vacuum cleaner. Once it is all blocked the graphic card overheats and dies. Happened to me, but we learn from our mistakes, especially, if you have dogs. I go into my PC and get all the hair and dust out at least once a year. I went from non shedding Yorkie to German Shepherd, and that guy is a big mess, when we talk about hair in the house.
I cannot imagine the hair a GSD must shed, my lot drop what I can only describe as thousands of eye lash size hairs every single day, and since Sam moved out, she keeps sets of cookie pants and tee shirts here, just so she doesn't take hairy clothes back to the house in Norwich
It was no problem Tracey. I think of helping people with Mac repair as my own personal "screw you!" to Apple.
I love their designs but I hate their attitude towards repair. They consider a 5 year old computer "vintage". Their stuff is just too expensive for me to constantly be buying new devices. A $2000 laptop is $667 a year if it only lasts 3 years and is at the end of it's useful life according to them. At that cost I could buy a brand new Windows PC every year and still come out ahead!
