So far my pup is doing fine on raw chicken. His stools are pretty firm. The other day I gave him some raw hamburger meat w/ the chicken. My pup got the runs (i think from the hamburger meat because after I stopped the burger meat, his stools returned to normal). Should I be introducing the ham meat slowly or is the hamburger meat too rich for the pup?

Hello Mike:
I feed my dog solid gold hunden flocken. I have found that to be one of the best kibble type of products that I can find. It is hard to find in my area. I alternate between the holistic blend (green bag) and the millenium blend (blue bag). I haven't had any problems and until I can get all the necessary items together to try a BARF type of diet, I will continue to use this unless something much better comes along.
Just my $.02,
Brandon
Cindy Heath,
My dogs will yack up bone chunks from recreational bones, too. I figure they're the pieces that irritate the stomach, so it's not bad if they barf em back up. The squirts are said to be caused by all the fat, if the dogs are not used to it. My dogs don't do well with beef knuckle bones for that reason, but are fine with the shanks. Probiotics are supposed to help with that, or so I've heard.
Explorer, coming from a perspective of dealing with potential food allergies, I would suggest that you avoid mixing different types of meats in one meal. That is, if you're feeding chicken wings and want to add more muscle meat, add chicken, not beef. Sounds like your pup's system couldn't tolerate the beef. As far as the bones, my adult dogs are fine with the wing bones. I even found a whole one, while out poop scooping one day. It just passed all the way through.
Michael,
I fed Solid Gold Hunden Flocken (chicken) for a while. I switched to the Mmillennia (beef) in order to help alleviate my dog's ear problems, but to no avail. My second dog, who does not have ear problems, did better on the Mmillenia (she was itchy on the Hunden Flocken). Also, I have a Labrador, and have heard that the Hunden Flocken does not have enough fat for a Lab.
How do you guys feel about turkey necks...(13 month old GSD) ?
I feed them with no problem. I have heard someone say they felt they were too big. I have had no problems.
Any comments appreciated.
Pat
I don't think turkey necks would be too big-I fed the last litter of alaskan pups an emu neck when they were about 6 weeks old and they had no problem with that(and THAT was a NECK!) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
