Has anyone here ever owned (or had other close personal interaction with) a Standard Manchester Terrier ??? Am considering the possibility of getting a male "mini-me" to go along with my Adobe-She's-A-Dobie ... Right now I'm just in the Thinking It Through Ahead of Time stage of the game -- I've heard the SMT is people-oriented & pretty biddable, but am looking for the True Facts about this breed, thanks !!!

I knew 2 toy Manchester Terriers that came to the vet clinic. They were owned by old people who had bought them because the dogs were small and clean.
These dogs were hyper, barky and they bit. But their owners made no effort to train them, none at all, so this eval is unfair. But, as they were, untrained, they were awful.

Yes, that would be a typical case of "Small Dog Syndrome" in which a TOTAL lack of pack order and obedience training allows a little Canine Hitler to rule the roost, IMHO Even my good-girl Dobie would turn into a Dominant Dictator overnight, if I let her call the shots in our life -- She arrived as an adult, with a pre-established bossy-Demanding-PUSHY temperament, but I don't stand for any willful misbehavior from "Miss Priss", LOL.

I had different terrier breeds for yrs and even in the show ring the Manchester wasn't all that common.
I don't recall ever seeing one in the OB ring.
Are you aware that there is also a Miniature Dobe also?
Not as unusual to see as the Manchester IMHO.

Bob, do you have any links you can provide for the "Miniature Dobe"? I've been in Dobes for almost thirty years and have never heard of it. I know there are a number of breeds that are similar in appearance to the Doberman but smaller in stature: the German Pinscher, Manchester Terriers, standard and toy, and the Miniature Pinscher or MinPin. The general public sometimes believes these to be miniature Dobermans, but they are not.
Just curious as to what you might be referring to.

Thanks, Bob There are actually 5 Standard Manchester Terriers entered in the benched Golden Gate Kennel Club show at the Cow Palace here this wknd, so I'm planning to chat up their owners while I'm there, and am hoping to get candidly truthful information ... However, there is no such thing as a "Miniature Doberman" to the best of my knowledge -- I believe you're thinking of the Miniature Pinscher, which is a different breed entirely, but that's a common misconception.

I stand corrected. I WAS aware of the correct name but I'm getting old.
If I'm not mistaken I believe the Min-Pin is actually an older breed then the Dobe.
At one point in it's history it was called the Egyptian Terrier.
Be sure and discuss health issues.
Different health issues can be common in breeds that don't have a huge breeding pool.

"Great minds think alike", Elaine, THANKS I had gone to her site after posting here last Friday, LOL -- So far, all my "Dobie Sources" have said the SMT is not as much of a "terror" as some Terrier breeds can be, but they definitely do NOT have much in common with most Dobermans, temperament-wise ... I actually LIKE the terrier type of personality myself, but don't know how well one would mix & match with Adobe so am not pursuing a SMT at this time, and I really appreciate everyone's Input !!!
