Yes OK now I get it. That's why she basically twitches when we try to stay put for more than twenty seconds. If I praise her she explodes I have to praise her like I would with no emotion . how should I go about teaching her stay.
Great analogy by Bob, especially since we use the same example in a similar analogy for capping. If the cap is leaking due to increasing pressure, you have two options; you can remove the cap and release all the pressure at once (end the training session and/or put the dog away), or you can release a little pressure and still have a usable amount of pressure in the tank.
We use the second option to train in drive, and that is the optimal learning environment for a high drive dog. To release some of the pressure, we do a couple of really basic commands that the dog knows well, such as position changes or a little heeling. We reward these and then call the dog back to the basic position (whatever that may be for you and your dog... either heel position waiting for a command or facing you waiting for a command). At this point the dog should be in a comfortable but excited state of mind, his focus should be on you, and his anticipation should be keen.
