In addition to the Ramsey videos one of the many ways to train scent work is pretty simple.
I've put the target scent in salt shakers.
Yo can sit in a chair, on the floor, whatever.
Salt shaker w/scent in one hand and treats in the other.
When the dog shows interest in the shaker w/scent just mark and reward.
From there you can hold the shaker w/scent around and eventually
put it on the floor, under things, etc.
Just be sure to also have a couple of empty salt shakers to proof with.
(Maggie this would work for you also)
After I left SAR I would imprint different scents on my dog just for kicks.
One instance
One of my grandkids asked if I would give a demo at her high school.
My dog was trained in different aspects of HRD for the most part so I took about 10 mins, twice a day for a week and imprinted him on cigarettes.
Since he already knew the game he pick it up after about five mins but I prooofed it for a week.
At the high school I hid the "illegal substance" around the school property and the kids loved it watching Thunder search and mark where it was hidden.
