Dobermans are fantastic dogs and have a lot to offer as a companion.
I noticed yesterday as she was barking and growling at the sprinkler man. She came close to me for support and leaned against my leg. She was shivering. I held her and gave her protection and the support she needed.
Yes, we LOVE this breed in my family -- I would offer one TIP though, and am hoping some Expert Trainers will also chime-in here...
Coddling & Comforting a dog who is shivering with stress is usually Considered Counterproductive reinforcement of anxiety -- Better to re-direct her attention in a business-like manner onto something POSITIVE such as Giving a Command that you know she will follow:
Sit -> GOOD GIRL -> Reward -> OK -> "Rinse & Repeat" ... This will actually help Build her Confidence instead of making her feel even more nervous by coddling & comforting, Dawn.
