Search the archives; it has been discussed several times already. I think it is a good kibble as far as kibbles go, but finding a dealer can be difficult.
They add probiotics, and supposedly the chicken and turkey that go into their meal are human grade. Auster did well on it but I don't know about long term since I used to change kibble brands every bag (no kibble is complete, don't kid yourself). If there was a dealer in Chapel Hill, Auster would be eating the fish and potato food.

What Lauren has said is exactly right. Search the archives and I think you will find most of the answers you are looking for in past threads.
Just to note, I do feed this kibble myself. I have fed it to my dogs for the past 2 years. They both have done marvelously on this food. I have recently started combining it with raw food (fed at seperate meals -- not mixed with the kibble) but even before I did this, their coats were exceptionally clean and glossy, teeth clean and bright, no bad "doggie breath," strong bones and fit muscles and other points of notable health.
While it is true that nothing quite beats an all raw diet, IMHO, Blackwood ranks right up there with Wellness and Innova as far as quality goes. And it is somewhat cheaper than those IF you can find a distributor.
Best of luck!

I just went to the Blackwoods site.. and after reading the ingredients of this food.. I wouldn't feed it . Look at the first several ingredients.. it hardly has any meat in it at all.. all grains.. beet pulp!! YIKES!! Corn.. Rice... YUK!
Jody, it really depends on the formula. The 7000 (working dog diet) and the low cal food don't compare. The fish and potato food is only one of about 4 or 5 foods that Auster can eat.

I'm new here, and was looking for information on puppies that the bitch wont let eat. She has singled out the runt, and i need to find out what type of suppliment I can give this 4 day old puppy. I dont mean to intrude, but I cant find where I post a topic or ask a question. Your discussion was the closest one to the info. I'm trying to find.
please help? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Jody, the formula I feed my dogs has chicken meal listed as the first ingredient and it contains NO corn at all. It does have brown wild rice and beet pulp (with sugar extracted) listed, but further down the list. Beet pulp has known health benefits as long as the sugar is extracted from it. This food also contains bone meal (NOT by-products -- just bone) which is hard to come by in any other kibbles.
I would encourage you to do some further research of this kibble before writing it off completely. I am not saying this is the absolute best thing in the whole wide world and everybody should feed it. Nothing beats a raw diet (which is why I suppliment with raw) and each person needs to feed what best works for them and their dog. What works for one will not necessarily work for another, but you should know more about the other formulas that Blackwood offers before assuming the whole product is bad.
My dogs' health and fitness is a testimony of this food. I would invite anyone to my home to see my girls and see for yourselves how healthy and fit and energetic they are on this food.
