Working or show they only have to be titled in front of a licensed judge but the title is absolutely necessary in order to put a show champioonship on a dog.
There is little interest in the working line dogs to show but, yes, there are still working clubs where titling a dog is easier then other clubs.
It's often said that club level titles are easier to get then regional and National titles.
MANY folks just want to title their dogs and not compete yet some will want to go as far as they can.
There is also the judge to factor in.
Some are easier then others on scoring.
No different then anything else in the world.
Yo just have to know who, what, when, where, how hard you want it and what you and your dog is capable of.
Having done AKC show (with terriers), AKC obedience and Schutzhund I can tell you the politics are MUCH more evident in the show ring.
