Christina,
Trust me, if it's possible to do everything with dogs completely backwards, I've done it My agility instructor used to say that Toni was learning DESPITE me. I always call my dogs "handler impaired" and when they do something great, they get all the credit, not me
I can't imagine all the titles and stuff my dogs would have if they had not been stuck with me as their trainer!
But we have fun, and in the end that's what matters to me. I want to be able to say "It's been a great and wild ride" when I let them go to the Bridge. I don't ever want to regret not trying something with them just because I was afraid of it.
My dogs have opened up so much of the world to me, that I owe them more than words can ever express. That's what having a dog is all about.

Kelly I 100% agree. Fun matters for me too more than anything they can achieve or not. With "handler impaired" I must unfortunately agree too. And that the dogs have given me a completely different sight of the world too.I came here to Brazil in order to travel, now I'm staying at home travelling in the world of dogs
But I can't agree fully with not regretting mistakes. Of course everyone, especially beginners, make mistakes and as long as we can learn out of them it's not at all bad.
But I would like to avoid that sort of mistake, which might harm them or bore them. Boredom is one of the worst things for me and I think for the dogs too. I can go on with an exercise with a lot patience and maybe they'll learn it, but I can also go on with it not knowing if perhaps they everytime think:"Uääh! that one again!"

If the dog continues to show enthusiasm for for a particular exercise then it's doubtful it's bored.
Work with them on many different behaviors and that would help with any boredom.
It doesn't even have to be training.
Just have fun with them.

That's what they and I are having, thank's God. I also train this one for very short time and vary with others, some of which they aleady know solidly and 1 new one. They don't seem to show signs of boredom.
But as it is an exercise we seem to be stuck, I fear they could be bored some day. Will they show this to me? Until now they come always running for training, So it can not be so awful. But how will they show when it comes to boredom? With walking away? Or with denying? I've never seen such signs until now, but couldn't it be that I don't read them well enough?

The only way, IMHO, you will see your dogs showing signs of boredom is when they become destructive by chewing, fighting, going places they shouldn't, etc. They appreciate any level of engagement and attention you can give, regardless of how repetitive it may seem to you. The activities you provide may be more boring to you but, trust me, they revel in any attention you can provide, whether it's exercise, training, or simply play.

Oh good. Thanks Greg. so until now it can not be too much for them. They've never shown any of the reactions you described. I always have the impression the session was too short. (Of course different exercises, so the whole training session can be about 15 minutes.)

Better to be to short then to long.
That keeps them wanting!

Yes, but those biests almost always want. There looks make me a bad conscience. They are clearly waiting and saying: "When will we finally continue?" They don't seem to have grasped, that I have got some other things to do too. If I'd train four dogs (each one private) more than twice 15 min. + walk, swim and play the day would be over.
