My puppy is doing great and is a lot of fun.
My older boy is having issues. He is turning into an old grumpy guy. He growl at the puppy none stop. I still crate the pup but moved him to the main floor. My old Dexter will drag a bed next to the pup crate and growl. He even growl if they are in crate.
He never yet attack the pup and the pup get all excited if I don't stop the growling as it turns to barking and the pup think Dexter want to play.
I don't let them interact, no toys of food with supervision.
I separate as much as possible. But some times I need them both in the house.
Also if I leave my old one crated too long he get stiff in the back end.
The house is open space. So what are options to stop this none sense. Dexter will knock it off with a strong correction but that mean someone need to be close to do it.
They were ok for sometime but one day I came to Dexter growling about one month ago. I moved the pup back to the bed room with close door. Dexter growl at the door and the room get hot and stuffy.
Dexter is 7yo. Lucifer is now 8 months old and he was 10 weeks when I got him. The puppy is crated when I am not in the house. I have some friends who bring their dog over and not a problem even in the house.
On the main floor the crates are 20' apart with just partial view of each other

"Same sex Aggression" (IMHO) -- Male pup is Maturing now & is no longer being given a "puppy pass" by older Male dog ... This is the reason I personally get Opposite Sex dogs when I have a PAIR No matter how well-managed your handling of 2 males or 2 females together, if one or both decide to HATE the other one Forever, then that CANNOT be changed by any owner (if Dexter is determined to hate Lucifer till hell freezes over, then all you can do is live in a "divided home" and House them Separately for the duration.)

The only difference is the pup is not fix. Dexter was fix before leaving the breeder and the one I lost this summer was also fix when I got him.
any clever idea how to block access to the stairs. I have a gate at the top but Dexter is not able to turn around in the stairs with out falling. So I would need to block at the bottom.
