I hesitate to post on political issues but this is truly horrific to me. I cannot agree that in any way is this art. Although the Guggenheim has already canceled these video exhibits, their latest statement after the fact suggests that they have only complied because of threats towards their organization.
Personally I feel like it is still important to sign the petition to indicate how completely inappropriate these exhibits are. Just because other people (countries/museums) are doing it, doesn't make it acceptable. I also think that there is a marked difference between recording a terrible event in the hopes that it is not repeated and mocking-up a similar event for the artists purposes.
You're absolutely right to post this, Carolyn. It is a dog issue (and of animals in general).
For me it is shocking and disgusting. If some people find this goes under "Freedom of Expression", they must be hopelessly confused in their mindset. Perhaps they'd change their opinion if humans were tortured in order to create a piece of art. Or would this go under the cover coat of "Freedom of Expression" too?
I do hope that many people will sign the petition.
