Anyway, a week ago last Monday, after his breakfast, Titan was suddenly very unstable, lurching around, and threw up. The symptoms manifested in an instant. I thought stroke, seizure, etc.

His eyes seemed to mirror symptoms of poisoning or drugs, they were bouncing around, kinda.

Happened at 0700 hrs. and I was at the vet's with him at 0800 hrs. I really like the vets at the practice, they are all about the creatures.

Long story short, my hyper anxiety was allayed by the diagnosis of a really, really, really dirty clogged up ear. After a thorough cleaning, and follow up treatment of drops twice a day, and antibiotics, Titan is back to his usual self.

Once the ear was cleared there was an immediate and dramatic improvement in his equilibrium, as you would expect.

The moral to the story, is easy for to tell, if you want to be a bolshevik you have... The lyrics of an old song... The moral is, even if you are sure you are diligent and thorough in cleaning out your dog's ears, be extra diligent.

It was two hours that had my full and anxious attention, that might have been avoided with more attention to detail, though the vet was not critical, I was filled with self recrimination.

Even when you believe you are doing all things right, things can go wrong.

Just a cautionary tale.

Having had several ear-infection-prone (allergic) dogs, I look inside their ear canals regularly with a flashlight.

But it sounds like this might not have been visible even that way.

OMG, as the Vet already implied: You are NOT to Blame ... "Ca-Ca Occurs" in this dirty world, even to the most careful among us -- If he will now need Regular ear canal Flushing with those drops, read the bottle's label to see if you can make up batches of it yourself at home (the Active Ingredients are normally non-prescription & inexpensive added to a large amount of water, comparatively speaking, so you can save a lot of money) !!!
