I know that this topic has been talked about in the past, however I only saw posts from many years ago, so I want to bring it up again.
I am looking to begin a career in dog training. I have trained my dog using Michael Ellis' videos on Leerburg. I would love to attend one of his classes, but for now I cannot. I recently left a graduate school program to pursue dog training, so the tuition has taken up a lot of my available funds to attend seminars.
I was wondering if anybody knew if Michael or any other trainer offered internship or apprenticeship programs.
I have applied to an obedience school in my home town and am waiting to hear back. Does anybody know any schools in Massachusetts (Boston area) that may be worth reaching out to?
I am basically looking for any advice on how to get started in a career of dog training.
Thanks!
What Bob said... even as a trainer myself, when I look for an instructor I want someone with hands on experience - dog training schools mean little to me... except Michael Ellis' school.
My advice would be to find someone that is accomplished in training and have them mentor you while you train your own dogs. Nothing in the world can beat hands on experience in dog training. You need to learn to read different temperaments and different breeds ... that's not really something that you can learn from a book or even video.
