i am new to the message board and have a question that may seem a little unusual. i would appreciate some input. i have a 9 week old gsd, who is absolutely beautiful. i have him on a raw diet, and he loves everything i feed him EXCEPT bones. he ignores chicken wings, knuckles, etc. he loves veggies and fruits, fish but will not go near the raw meats and bones....is this normal ? please give me some insight. thanks
9 weeks may be a little young for wings and such, but I guess it depends on the pup. For the younger pups you might want to start with chicken necks. As for his distaste, change brands and make sure it is fresh and well rinsed before you give it to him. If that does not work then take some chicken necks and backs and grind them (bone and all) into a hamburger like consistency and work it into his diet, then eventually things will take their course with the whole wings and necks.
You could also let the little bugger get hungry! Keep him off the vegies for a day or so and then present him with some necks. I he doesn't eat them take them away. Next meal time, try again. Usually a hungry puppy will eat anything. As soon as he's done eating a neck, give him something he likes. Soon he'll learn he has to eat what you give him first, then he gets what he likes. I did this with my girl and vegies. She just didn't like them. Now she scarfs them down and looks right up for a leg quarter!
