I have known people to use back packs for their higher energy dogs, and it works wonders. Win win, focusing the dog with a job to do, and also carrying your stuff!
I too have back packs for my dogs. They though look a bit different than the ones of your link, Michele. Probably because I've got them already since years (also from LB). But they're still like new. I use them for water, food and alll kind of junk.
I also use them just for energy packs. It works great if you want to have after your walk a happy dog. (tired dog= happy dog)
Important is to get them accustomed to the extra weight gradually and that both sides are filled with the same weight. In the beginning I used only stones, then old pieces of lead we had from scuba diving.
