Many of you know that I have been taking Eleven to the facility that Drift had done so much wonderful work with "her" kids. We went yesterday and one of Drift's "favorites" was there and Eleven went straight to him - much like Drift always did.
As he sat on the floor with the puppy lying quietly on his lap he started to talk about Drift. He was recalling all of the things that Drift used to do and at the end he said "you know that I loved her, right?" I said that yes, I knew, and that Drift loved him right back.
He looked down at the puppy and rubbed her ear and asked "Do you think Eleven will love me too?" Just as I was about to say that I was sure she would, she stood up and licked his face, which made him smile. I told him that I think she just answered his question.
While I don't feel that any dog will measure fully up to Drift, I do think Eleven will do her best. At a mere 4 months she is pretty awesome.
Just wanted to share a little smile with everyone....
Your story about Drift and Eleven made me smile too. actually I'm still smiling. So sweet and funny.
And I agree with Tracy. You have a gift, without doubt. Special handlers have special dogs I also am a special handler and have special dogs, though not necessarily always in a positive sense.
Congrats to you!

That is a heartwarming story, Kelly. It brought a little lump to my throat. I agree with the sentiments already expressed here that not only have you had great dogs but those dogs also had/have a great owner/trainer/handler.

Tissue Time for SURE reading this, Kelly I believe that Eleven may be "channeling" Drift in some way (for want of a better word) -- This definitely happened after my Shaka passed, and I adopted Adobe from our Rescue facility ... Two separate Breeds with two Different temperaments, but the "overlap" between so MANY of their behaviors was Utterly Uncanny !!!
