I'm deciding on a new e collar. I had a Dogtra 280 originally, and liked it at first. However, it started acting up. The rheostat dial started to become super sensitive and I had a hard time getting to the level I wanted. It also started to seem to produce inconsistent stimulation. I sent it back and Dogtra said it was fine, but it doesn't seem like my dog responds to the same level even when no distractions are present. I was thinking because it was so small and my dog is very active, that I would get the bigger model since I heard that they are more durable.
I narrowed it down to the Dogtra 2300 or the Educator K9-800. I got both to try them out and plan to return one.
I wasn't sure I liked the quality of the Dogtra 280 so I wanted to see if the Educator would be better. Educator has great (IMO) customer service who were very helpful.
I really like the boost function on the educator, it's easier to increase when she is distracted. I find with the Dogtra that I either have to look down at the screen or I end up spinning the dial too high.
The only reason I am questioning it, is the shape of the transmitter. I really don't like the circle. It's hard to hold the leash and transmitter when walking and it just doesn't feel natural. I'm sure I can eventually get used to it though.
Does anybody have any experience or recommendations on which I should keep, the Dogtra 2300 or the Educator K9-800? I see pros and cons in both.
If there's anyone who can offer some advice that would be great.
Thanks.
P.S. Educator seems to push the fact that they use "wide-pulse" stimulation because it is "more humane". Is that true? I tried them both on myself and couldn't feel any difference.
The educator works at lower levels compared to the Dogtra in my opinion.
It is also smaller, which I like. Not as heavy as the Dogtra.
But the led screen on the Educator is always lighting up, which irks me. The dial is very sensitive, but has a handy lock mode.
The dogtra stands up to winters. Haven't tried the Educator on that part yet.
I use both , my dogtra is an older model, I think it's personal preference. I do favor the Educator more, as I like working with lower levels.
