So after working endlessly with my Harry butt, I am proud to report, his first a this weekend. On Friday, it was his first non fighting me groom. And after the groom, his first non fighting lift off the table. We ended Friday also with butt wagging.
I have not seen his butt wiggle for such a long time. Saturday he leashed up in the crate, came out on command. And after going potty, more butt wiggling!
Today we went for out first walk in a long time, perfect heel, which earned him some off leash time in our safe place. We paired that with perfect recalls, and a leash up.
Back on the table, lift off, I cannot believe the turn around in just his happiness!
I am careful not to over praise, and am still sticking to the program, but I sure hope this Harry sticks!
The only thing I did different was add some chamomile tea, diluted, to his water. Doubt that was the magic, but he sure likes it!
I will have to add, Tues was one of our worst days. I ended up severely bruised, and we had quite the fight, no bites, just tons of body fighting.
I did not back down, and HE ended up averting his eyes, and backing down. I put him away and ignored him for 2 days. Just basics. I think he might have gotten the point.
I know this might be a lull, but I don't plan on thinking hey he is fixed. We are still going to do the same work daily, same rules, but he is going to be getting plenty of yes!
So nice to see something I can work with!
No Mona, he is a almost 14 month old sheepdog with a tendency to physically stop you from leading him. Just a brat on a high horse. I took his horse away! I am fine! Bruises heal, and so does the mind!
Yes Bob, now I live by calm, confident and consistent!
And for now, I think he is pretty confident that I am sticking to those rules!
I sympathize with your struggle Mona, mine was more physical. But the struggles are the same!
I can't offer advice, as I am still working, but I can say, it gets better, when the work is put in.
Marker training is awesome, so is NILIF training, mine just needed a bit more behaviour work.
Just remember, the lack of no means yes.
Marker train. Watch the vids, and be very consistent.
I had to do an entire life change, but it is worth it to see him grow, us grow together, and to see his big brown eyes looking at me for guidance!
Day 5, and going strong! Looking forward to our walk later!
There is nothing better on a Monday to wake up to a smiling dog!
Have a great day everyone!
