Do you really celebrate Christmas and Birthdays with the dogs? They can't understand what you're celebrating. But in order to remember and feel them in our heart I do understand.
Absolutely! They get treats and new toys for their birthdays and for Christmas. They may not understand the “why” behind it, but they certainly enjoy the special attention.
I also make carrot and apple salads for the horses for their birthdays and Christmas.

Must be a great experience for them to get something special as a surprise. Good idea! We love feasts, they certainly love this too even without knowing the connection.
Carrot and apple salads for the horses? Do you mean rasped and then mixed? Or do you also add a certain dressing. However, I wish I were your horse or dog.

Oh, you happy guys!!! As I'm Swiss I'm used to snow and love it. Especially around Christmas I almost NEED it. In my childhood we almost every year had white Christmas. Later on it was more and more seldom, probably because of climate change. Here in Brazil it lacks of course completely. So I never get into Christmas-mood. I even forget that Christmas is coming, unless someone reminds me of it.
You need a yearly Christmas "Weekend" in the ANDES mountains! Plenty of SNOW at high altitudes, even in the tropics, Christina
Great idea, Candi, but this is very far. We have regions in Brazil too with regular snowfall in winter, mostly in the South, also Southeast. But this is very from where I live, (Bahia), and it wouldn't be possible with 4 dogs. Without them no Christmas at all, so I'll better do without snow.
Oh well, so much for that idea, LOL -- Maybe just rent or buy that old film, "Eight Below", the true story of a scientific research group's Sled-Dog Team who survived an accidental over-wintering ALONE in ANTARCTICA without any human caretakers ... In real life those dogs were AKITAS, but they used Siberian huskies & Alaskan malamutes for the movie (Akitas were too Independent to work well with the actors, I guess?)

Oh great! I'll look for that film, sounds very interesting. Maybe I'll find it on Netflix. You're funny! I think, after having watched it, I'll try it the easier way, imagine the sand is snow and let the dogs pull a sled-like object there. Again a team of 4, or will I simply have to lose weight?
Other question: You often have underneath your comment the sign "an image". But I can't open it. Can you tell me how or is smthg wrong with my PC?

Thanks for the pics, Candi. What beautiful dogs on the whole and what a shiny coat!

Me too. Kelly! I've always celebrated holidays and dog birthdays (or adoption dates) with my dogs. They sure do enjoy it.

So you've convinced me, guys! I'll start with this ritual too. My dogs love apples and carrots too, but they get this anyway, also other fruits and vegetables. The most loved by them are meaty bones and all kind of meat. For this I'm quite at a loss what Christmas/Birthday banquet might be something very special for them.
