With the 4th of July quickly approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to share how everyone keeps their dogs safe and stress free with all of the fireworks going on.
In the past I had dogs that were terrified of fireworks, and neighbors that seemed to delight on setting off fireworks the entire month of July. It was a highly stressful time, to say the least.
I always made sure that my dogs had collars and current name tags on them whenever we went outside for potty time - just in case one of them decided to run off due to the fireworks - even well trained dogs can panic and take off. Luckily mine never did. If I had a newer dog or one that I thought might be a high flight risk, I kept it on a leash outside and a drag line inside ( they can bolt out a door surprisingly fast when they are scared).
When there was a lot of fireworks going on, my dogs were in their crates with yummy bones to chew on. I would put a cover over the crate and turn the radio on to help cover the sound of fireworks. They really like Queen....
My current dogs are not scared of fireworks, and I no longer have neighbors that feel the need to set off fireworks, thank goodness.
What does everyone else do to get through the 4th?
