Really? A forecast of colder than cold for May this weekend? Yikes! Polar vortex is the culprit, we are told.
The poor flowers are becoming schizophrenic. Ah well.
Hunkered down with the mutts. I think I'll take the 4th Degree Curmudgeon/Hermit exam. I've been studying for weeks, and part of the homework is to avoid people. Works for me.
Smoked some pork tenderloins yesterday. Bought me one of them there meat syringes for infusing seasonings and such into the meat. Does make for a more thorough taste experience.
Winds are gusting from the WNW but it still feels in the mid 50s. The squirrels , gray and red, and chipmunks, and all manner of birds - cardinals, mourning doves, blue jays, chickadees, goldfinches, songbirds, and the omnipresent and various black birds - are visiting the bird feeders. Like watching the nature channel.
Dogs are sleeping their afternoon siesta. I think I shall brew a cup of Bewley's Irish tea or cupán tae Éireannach Bewley, and a A slice or two of camp bread to compliment the warmth.
Please be safe, and cheers to the day! Bí slán, le do thoil, agus gártha leis an lá!

We've had a couple of days close to 90 in the past 3-4 weeks and now there saying possible frost Friday morning. Go figure! Most of the native plants I have for the Bees. Hummingbirds. butterflies, etc can handle even a hard frost. Azelias here are almost done blooming but a frost will finished them off. I've already started a new compost pile with trimmings and clippings and yard waste even though I don't really get after the yard waste for another month or so because of different "bugs" that over winter in it. Sticking to the house and yard for the most part. Son in law is doing most all our shopping and we have the kids visit where we sit at social distances in the drive way.

-13c with the windchill here today, gusting to 40km , 8 feet of iced snow on the yard still. Machines are put away, and we are still home schooling the kids daily.
4 wheeler is out, geese are back wondering why they came here lol.
Black bears and Grizzlies are awake, polar bears still have plenty of ice.
Sasha has been learning to go potty off leash, on remote collar. Doing very well, and starting to eat better, still only in the evening, but up to almost 3 cups.
Been moving things around in the house to condition her to change, including the crate and cot.
We are hoping to continue the slow spring and melt.
Have a jerk across the road who lets his mastiff/husky intact male loose, who tries to square up with me, brought out my bear spray and bought a outdoors xpen for sasha to learn to go potty in, 6x6 I believe. Will do whatever I have to in order to protect her from this mutt and his loud mouthed owner.
Funny he put no trespassing signs on the cabin, but has zero issues with his dog trespassing on others property.
Bought a nanny cam to put indoors for sasha so we can give her more free time while still watching her.
Glad everyone is healthy and doing well with quarantine, for us, being hermits is normal lol!
Stay safe, and happy!

I woke up to 24 degrees this morning. No snow on the ground, but the day is young. There may be some as the morning goes on. I did see flurries yesterday but at the time, it was around 40 degrees, so nothing stuck to the ground.
It's been a cold May for sure. We had better weather back around the middle of April. I think we have a few more cold nights to come and then things look like they'll be back to normal for this time of year.
The dogs are doing okay for their ages. Logan will be 12 next week, Tasha turned 13 a couple months ago. My husband and I are staying healthy, thank goodness, and doing what we need to do to stay that way.
Sending good wishes to all of you!

Only was 29 F., with a wind chill of 19 F. at 0600 hrs. this morning. Wind WNW gusting over 17 mph. Snow on the ground overnight, and more light snow this morning but the current rising temperature, 35 F., won't sustain any accumulation. Still and all an unwelcome gift of nature to get up to in May.
I'll remember that sentiment in July and August when the temps are likely to reach new heights. I may rue the May snow commentary.
Almost time to switch from coffee to tea, when the sun is over the yardarm. Bewley's Irish Tea, master blenders since 1840, Dublin morning tea.
Well, time to see how the mutts like the chill of late morning.
Be safe.

Hi Mike & Everyone,
I hope the snow is behind us for the time being here in the back-of-beyond where I live now, an hour & a half NE of Cheyenne, WY -- This is "High Plains Drifter" ranch land on the prairie along the north fork of the Platte River valley ... Locals call this area the "Wyoming Tropics" as it enjoys this state's mildest climate We're on the old Oregon Trail of pioneer days, and the westering Euro-Americans settled here because it's where this whole region's Native Tribes over-wintered.
My son & his wife moved here a year ago when he accepted a professorship at Eastern Wyoming College -- Then they got pregnant with their first baby in August, so I retired in January, bought a home around the corner from them, and moved in this February ... The dogs LOVE my much larger fenced property, plus the entire basement level of my 3 story house is dedicated as their foul weather exercise yard, since it has central heating & multiple windows.
By the grace of God, my move transpired BEFORE this horrible Pandemic hit !!!
Even though I left my heart in my hometown paradise of San Francisco, it has
been my wonderful Good Fortune to discover another paradise of a different kind where the buffalo roam & wild geese live year-round, so I've been lucky enough to find a Haven of Happiness in my newly adopted territory
Hope all of you are managing these difficult times as well as possible, and that we will each enjoy better days to come...
Love You Guys,
Candi & Canines

Candi, congratulations on your retirement and your move to Wyoming. It's nice that you are near your son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild, and really nice that you all got there and got settled in when you did! It sounds like you have a great place, well-suited for you and the dogs. I have visited Wyoming a few times and it's a beautiful state.
Take care of yourself, and don't be a stranger around here.

Oh, Candi I am so jealous! Paul lived for a while in Buffalo, WY as a kid and we went there on vacation one year. I totally fell in love with the area and hope to retire there someday! It is such a wild and majestic place, with the Big Horns right there. Wisconsin is beautiful, too, but Wyoming stole a piece of my heart.
We are expecting snow tomorrow, and have determined that planting the flower beds will have to wait until Memorial Day. The humming birds and
Orioles have retuned already, and have been going through tons of food - which we happily supply.
Along with the cold temps is the wind- I don’t recall having this many successive windy days before. And the wind is more sustained at this point, with super gusts mixed in.
We hope everyone stays safe (and warm)!
