Definitely good to review. So many things to think about. I'm finding out that helping guide someone else is lots easier then trying to remember while I'm actually doing the training. Its coming back though.
I feel like I'm in the same position. It has been many years since I've started a new dog in training. I'm definitely out of practice and doing a lot of reviewing and refreshing. I start my class in a couple of weeks, and like you, I feel fortunate that I know my instructor well, and know her to be well-qualified and good at what she does.
Always good to know and understand your teacher for sure!
Well Yesterdays training didn't happen. The class I'm in is called a "drop in". The idea is for trainers to work on individual problems. That works out because those in the class with me are at the same level with our young dogs/pups. The class is small and I just need to let them know each week I will be there. Also a possibility that there will be no classes in April.
Not a real problem because I can continue the distraction training myself and hopefully have it fine tuned when class is back up. Quincy, at just shy of 6 months is really starting to zero in or cars and people going up and down our street so that ill be good distractions to work on. A couple of near by parks and one large dog park to work outside the fence also. All reward based at this point so it's just a matter of shaping Quincy's behavior by rewarding with a "good" and a treat when he isn't focused on any distractions. At this point is more about shaping that actual luring or adding any command to it until he discovers I'm more important then what he sees in the world.
