I have two males that are almost 7 and I will tell you that since I changed in the last two years to a raw diet, I do not see any years being added to them, or thier teeth. I am all for the raw diet way of feeding.
I've heard this really adds to the life of the dog.
Possibly a good comparison to the fast food is many of today's children are raised on fast food, frozen food, etc.
I don't know if it's true but I've heard that the asian community lives quite a bit longer on average, (I don't know if that's true) BUT this could possibly be from their diet. Point being, they don't overload on chemicals in the east. The diet is much different.
after reading ed's article on the road kill that goes into the commericial foods i am now switching to a good quality kibble like innova or ca natural (which are recommended from ed's article). i am hoping to see a differance in health and in appearance. raw diet will not work for me. but i beleive in it. anyway, i see that they do put some glucosamine and chondroitin in the senior dogfoods, but it is very little we are talking a average daily feeding is still under 300-400 mg so it just isn't enough, thoughfore, one still needs to buy a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement.
I have boarded my dogs and have found MANY boarders that will feed whatever diet you have for your dog as long as it is all packaged and ready to go.
No problem. . .none. . .zero. . .hassle free. . .all good boarders already have plans in place for special dietary needs for dogs with health problems or other reasons. . .not a big deal.
Shop till you find one, the boarding business is a competitive market. There are plenty of joints going out of their way to get your business.
I agree with VanCamp one hundred percent...and have done just that.
I have boarded my GSD with the vet I work for and while the vets don't totally support the raw food diet they support ME doing it...that is all that I need.
When I take him I take along several ziplock bags. There is wings/backs or whatever meat in individual serving sizes and veggies mixed with ground meat in another one. The just feed one bag AM and one bag PM. I even use a sharpie to label what day and time to feed. I have never come back to food being left over and the kennel people who aren't used to feeding raw actually get a kick out of watching my dog eat!! They think it is great!!
Again, the vets don't agree but they saw the difference the raw made with the GSD that I place awhile back with his breeder. He was sensitive to the grains in the diet. It made a huge difference. I think I am slowly winning them over. We now have a couple of other clients who have expressed interest in feeding raw while there. We just explain our guidelines for packing it up and they are ready to go!!!
