I am considering supplimenting my Dobies regular food with some enzymes to help him digest. From time to time, he sometimes regurgutates eaten food, and I'm thinking some enzyme suppliments may help. So if anyone can point me in a direction to get some, that would be much appreciated.
It can't hurt. I use enzyme supplements for humans for Auster. The pills should be opened over the food and allowed to sit on the food with some warm water for a while before the dog eats. I usually add the water and powder and mix it and then set it on top of the fridge so that Auster doesn't bother me as much.
The pills can also be given with the food without the presoaking, but the acid in the stomach can hurt some of the enzymes and make them not as effective.
I checked into prozyme, but per unit of enzymes the human stuff costs about the same and it is a whole lot easier to find.

Just me, but I'd watch the pills Lauren - for viokase etc with EPI dogs the powder works much better than the tablets - and I'd watch the warm water too, I'd use room temp water max, but depends on your definition of warm. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
I use water that is about body temperature or usually just slightly warm. I don't give the pills, I just buy them and open the contents of the pill over the food then mix it in. It ends up being cheaper than the powder for dogs.
Yogurt contains beneficial bacteria, which can help dogs as well. Auster gets yogurt and probiotics every once in a while and more often while on and after antibiotics.

Almost every pet catalog has prozyme or something similar. I've only ordered from http://www.kvvet.com so I can't compare catalogs very well.
I buy the ones for people at the local health food store (whole foods) although I have heard that some Walmarts carry enzyme supps now and I am considering ordering some from http://www.iherb.com since I will probably be ordering other things from them anyway. I compared the bottles and just bought the ones that were cheapest per unit of enzymes (some pills have twice as much enzymes as others to check the label).

Sorry Lauren! I thought you meant pills as in tablets, not capsules that you can open and sprinkle powder from. My bad. Altho I have to add Dr. Goodpet digestive enzymes available in Walmart are cheaper and from my experience just as good if not better than the more expensive Prozyme.

you can also make your own probiotics. try Kefir. You can amke it from water, non dairy so it won't counter act the probiotics. The only thing that makes me nervous about the yogurt is it is dairy, and our pups don't have the enzymes they need to break down lactose. you can also get probiotics from FASTRACK, off the internet. Walmart has a selection of probiotics too.
