Can anybody tell me if they have experience with Daniel Berneuil's Dogs they seem to excel in french ring I was wondering if anyone had trained one of his dogs in shutzhund
Hi William, I have worked with two very good dogs from Du Hurlevant. Yes they do well in Ringsport but they also excell in Campagne and Pistage.
The solid working lines that are produced from this kennel do go back into some superb German lines.
Both, Espoir Du Hurlevant Ring III, Campagne 500, Pistage, who is a Rolf son (Rolf was a leading sire from Daniel and major player in Campagne) and Scoop Du Hurlevant Ring III, Campagne 350 were outstanding dogs that I assisted with in training while they resided with the French owner here in Canada and both could do SCH in a heartbeat.
If you check the Du Hurlevant website you will notice that the breeding cover many combos from full 100% working to 75/25% working/working show.
Not only does Mr. Berneuil breed some great animals. He is also a very much sought after Judge of Multiple Protection Sports.
The dogs that I worked from this kennel were very hard biters, steady nerves and looked very good to the eye.
If anyone ever has an opportunity to watch the French Campagne Championship Video that Rolf took part in, do so as it contains some of the most intense scenes in protection bitework out there.
Jerry,
Is there a translation of the requirements for pistage A&B somewhere? I had a discussion some years back with the pres. of the FR subcomission about tracking and he gave me a brief explanation of their requirements for tracking titles. They sounded impresive at the time. Just curious.
Kevin, you would have to ask that one. I can get it but it might take a day or two.
Espoir is this months Front Cover Dog for the NARA Newsletter.
I have laid miles of track for this dog over the time he was with us and have to say he is quite the dog.
In Campgne 500 there are two very long tracks with several turns.
The first track is on line and there will be an article midway and a man at the end that the dog must bark to indicate but no bite.
The second track is equaly as long and also with several turns only this time there is no lead and the man does not go with the dog. The dog must nose to ground all the way and I mean a very long way and at the end of the track is an article that the dog must pick up without destroying it and retrieve to the handler who remained at the line of departure.
Campagne is awsome and is like when the PGA is playing at the local golf coarse.
In fact a Campagne trial covers the sise of a Golf Coarse and the spectators follow the team as they go from station to station.
It is concidered the cream of the crop in French Protection Sports. The decoy can be very creative how they try to buzz the dog.
There is a muzzel attack on an unsuited person and you never know what can happen as it is patterned after real life.
There are three water exercises. One seen and thrown retrieve in the water. Next an unseen retrieve that the dog has no idea what he is to find till he gets there and the last is a send away into the water that the dogon your command must enterthe water and continue swimming directly ahead very far until the judge signals and you recall the dog.
All the jumps are natural and can include rivers and dog must not get wet, Castle walls etc.
