hello I have an older gsd I keep him in my house and let him outside at times to relieve himself but have had 3 occasions in which he has had accidents now my question is how do I house train him I tie him up at night so he would'nt use it were he sleeps but that did't work any suggestions ?
I don't like the practice of tying a dog up whether inside or outside. However, that brings up a whole different issue. Your post does not say how long you've had the dog or whether you just got him recently. Get a dog crate and use it. If this is a dog that you just adopted or something like that he may just need a "refresher" housebreaking course, or maybe their is a medical reason. There is not enough info in your post to really know what is going on here. I will say that no matter what, stop tying the dog up. If you need to confine the dog, get a large crate.
hi thanks for responding this GSD is 7 yrs old I adopted this dog from a police officer going threw a divorce and believe the dog had no training I purchased a basic obedience from Leerburg and had basic dog training yrs back and need to refresh myself on it this dog is huge looks like he weighs 95 to 100 Lbs.I was wondering if the puppy traning video would help from Leerburg.
On a lighter note, I'm sure its just a matter of time before Ed notices that this thread is posted under the wrong subject!lol Anyway, my first post stands. Get a dog crate and re-housebreak the dog. You are smart to refer to Ed's tapes. If you haven't already, you should have the dog checked out by your vet. It sounds corny for a 7 year old dog, but reward him when he eliminates outside. Good luck and God bless you for giving the dog a good home. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
I am closing this thread. Chuck is correct - this is not under the correct topic. If anyone notices this happeneing - please let me know so I can stop it. I am sure it is just an issue with a new member not understanding how things work. I sent a private email asking that a little thought be put into where questions are asked. This is not that difficult of a board to manuver around on.
