Here is a announcement I was assked to spread around. I plan on attending with several of my peers from the area. I have participated in this event many times and it is always fun and informative!
"just a brief note regarding the upcoming Utah post police service dog championships. the dates are may 27-30, 2002. the championship is hosted and held at Utah post in west valley city, Utah. the championships are designed to have competition and also Utah post certifications with the event. Monday and Tuesday are training days at post to prepare for the events. the certifications/competition is Wednesday and Thursday.
please feel free to forward this to others interested. there is no cost to attend and the event is very casual and educational.
as of date the events scheduled are Utah post standards tactical deployment dog events, wpo competition and a new event called "vsk".
for those of you unfamiliar with these. the tactical deployment dog and wpo standards can be viewed on wendell nopes website. the "vsk" is new this year and is basically a running competition over a short few miles. during the event the dog and handler encounter obstacles, handgun competition and control issues such as verbal outs and agility.
those competitors who do well in the wpo or vsk may be eligible to be selected for the 2002 united states police service dog team to compete at the international competition in Germany.
if you have questions please feel free to contact myself or wendell nope.
Kevin, where is West Valley City, UT? Do you happen to have Mr. Nope's web site address? Thanks a lot. Hopefully it is southern Utah as I am in Vegas and would love to see those dogs work.
The County of Salt Lake got tired of Salt Lake City snapping up all the prime realestate. So they incorporated in to West Valley City. It is in the Northern half of the State.
