The VSK or Patrol Dog Biathalon will be held in conjunction with the November K-9 Workshop sponsored by Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit.

VSK MATCH RULES

Overall spring route is approximately 2500 meters
The service dog is on line during the course, maximum length in 6 feet.
The route is marked with signs and flagging.

Crawl Tunnel:
PSD omits to enter the tunnel - add 180 seconds.
Handler enters before PSD - add 30 seconds.

PSD in a down, recall distance 50 yards:
PSD does not stay in down, sits up, rises - add 45 seconds.
PSD leaves the marked area - add 45 seconds.

Handgun Target:
Must be in a standing position.
PSD may be attached to a stake during gunfire.
30 foot distance from handler to target.
10 rounds only.
Handler must leave handgun and magazines at firearms station when completed.
Each additional ring outside of the bull’s-eye is - add 2 seconds.
Total miss of the target - add 30 seconds.

Carry Dog over obstacle:
Premature, if the PSD leaps out of the handlers care before completing the obstacle - add 60 seconds.
Omits the entire obstacle - add 120 seconds.

Attack on handler:
Handler must drop line once the attack begins.
PSD cannot be recalled until the decoy does stick hits.
PSD must out on command without leash corrections.
Second verbal command - add 30 seconds.
Third verbal command - add 30 seconds.
Leash correction - add 60 seconds.

Plank walk:
PSD omits the walk - add 120 seconds.
PSD leaves the walk premature - add 60 seconds.

Water crossing and apprehension:
PSD does not voluntarily enter water - add 120 seconds.
PSD does not cross the water - add 240 seconds.
Handler enter the water before the PSD - add 120 seconds.
Second verbal command - add 30 seconds.
Third verbal command - add 30 seconds.
Leash correction - add 60 seconds.

CREDITS

Female handlers - 180 second credit.

Handlers over 32 years of age to 42 yoa - 5 second credit per year.

Handlers over 42 years of age to 52 yoa - 10 second credit per year.

Handlers over 52 years of age - 15 second credit per year.

Disqualifications
PSD bites any other person other than the decoys for water crossing and attack on handler.

Athletic clothing is allowed such as running shoes.

I have passed the information around to include the detectordog site to Holbrook PD, Winslow PD and Arizona Department of Corrections. Lets see what happens! This promises to be an unparalleled learning experience. The wider the variety of agencies and geographical location, the better the networking will be. It's all about getting the dope and the bad guys!

Simply......unbelievable! Patient, thurough instruction by experts in the field. If this should go again next year, I will be there. The instructors took time for EVERY question, were clear in their explanations and most importantly, spoke to the attendees as if they were equally competent. The instructors work dogs at their respective agencies, this was not a bunch of theory cast down from on high by text book-type administrators. The most effective instruction I have ever attended. The amount of information diseminatated was mind blowing. Practicals that were beatifuly simple and incredibly effective. This workshop is recommended for handlers and those who frequently call for handlers (like me) alike. Topped off with the VSK, one of the best "dog weeks" I have ever had.
