This is my "idea" on both, an AKC registered dog does not quarantee anything other than this fact.. that both parents were registered with the AKC. My understanding is FCI doesn't register any dogs/puppies. They are a European Group or Board of people that over see breed standards/shows/Sports etc... and their individual countries have their own registries. I would take FCI over AKC anyday, I'm sure FCI doesn't recognize "doodles" as purebred quality or designer dogs as a recognised breed.
As far as Dog Sports.. I think we need the AKC (only recognised registry in America) to compete on an International Level... not to mention FCI I believe excepts them and vise versa.
Correct me if I'm wrong. This is just my understanding of it all.
The AKC I believe is having or has had another Delegate meeting and the Giant Schnauzer Club of America has applied for permission that will be reviewed for consideration.
Cheers
Michelle
My strong oppossion to the AKC comes from the fact I believe the "higher up's" in the organization care only about being the only name in dogs. I don't think they care about a breed or a sport apart from a social aspect. I know this is not true (by a long strech) of everyone involved in with the AKC.
I've seen what has happened with the Border Collie breed in the last several years. The AKC basicly pushed aside all the concerns of the ABCA (main working BC registry), and went with an obscure registry as the BC "parent club" so the AKC could call the shots. I've heard how folks on the ABCA board of directors tried to work with them and were brushed off.
Then the vote last year to join with pet stores to register AKC pups (I realize that they backed off, but still...).
I'm know not really in any place to comment about protection sports. So maybe it will be different. I know they are the ones with the name recognition that can draw people. But I have come to believe that the AKC will be looking out for their own best interest in any venue they get involved with, not that of the the dog or sport. I do still really hope that maybe just this once I'll be wrong about them, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
