I bought a shedding blade from Ed F. and also the rake. Good rake. Works well. I use the shedding blade but I'm not quite sure what it does differently than the rake....besides make me feel like a fairy godmother with her wand! Just kidding....it does pick up some hair but I'd like to know how it differes in purpose from other grooming tools. Thanks!
Have just today used a grooming rake on my GSD for the first time. He is a full coated dog as his sire was long coated and dam short coated - he is somewhere in between.
How long would you experts think is usual to use the rake as I was amazed at how much hair actually came out and was worried about doing too much. I don't really want a bald dog!!!
Auster grows hair as fast as I can pull it out. I brush her for over an hour at times and she has just as much hair as she started with .
I think that you will faint from exhaustion before your dog goes bald so no need to worry .

Hi Gwen! - don't worry, the rake will only take out the hair that is loose and meant to come out anyway. Dogs can produce BAGS of undercoat. I know of one lady that gets hers spun into yarn!
Everybody in my dog yard is shedding right now and
it kind of looks like Christmas out there with all
the white and grey fluff floating around. Lauren is right - your arm will wear out before he goes bald.
I had Collies as a kid, and would spend hours upon hours brushing. I too had the hair at one point spun into yarn, then had a hat made of it. It was one stinky hat when it got wet!!!!
Anyway... I thought the collies had hair... enter the GSD... not as long, but I'll be damned if there's not more of it. Your dog will never go bald from brushing, it might look like it lost 10 lbs... but bald... you wont be so lucky.
