Well to add one more,..my current dog "Ari" will be going down this Thursday morning. He has a severe medical condition that can not be resolved. He's only 2 1/2 and I have only had him now for just over a year. He was a TRUE nightmare of a dog to train due to his "attitude" but in many ways I loved him for it. He never let me get lazy or become too over confidant with pushing him. He served those and myself around him well. He made several arrests while working for the Sheriff's Dept and was one of the first responding dogs on 9/11 to the WTC. He recovered 6 victims, one being a NYC Port Authority Police Officer. He(we) were also told he was a secondary "proof" dog on the lone survivor pulled out on the 12th. For all his "issues" I will miss him greatly. I am planning to speak w/ the Captain in charge of Port Authority PD at the WTC as he has already sent a letter I had written to the family of the Officer we found to make plans to have if possible his ashes sprinkled back at the site. A few other handlers whom are close friends and some who deployed and worked at the WTC are hoping we could go together and pay our respects to one very crazy Malinois. Even though he made me crazed on more than one occasion, was a great friend, partner, and hero. I will miss him.
