In the book Beginning Tracking by Gary Patterson,he says to begin you lay 3 straight tracks the dog runs them . Is that a session ? What is considered a session ? If that is a session then can you lay another set of three an hour or so later and do it again , can you keep doing sets of 3 till the dog gets full (from the bait) or just up to the point that you know the dog will tire of this. Or just leave it at a set of 3 tracks daily ? Or what ever your schedule is ?
Another question.
If you train your dog in competition tracking (FST) then go on to air senting for sar work will the dog still FST for competition ?
Rob
Every dog is differant. You have to be able to read him. Some do 1 to three once and loose interest. Others more. I started mine on one track three times a day. Once they knew what they were doing I could do three or four- twice a day (longer tracks) Its up to the individual dog.
Once you teach, or allow air scent tracking, its next to impossible to get a dog to keep its nose down ever again.

Getting ready for the walleye to start running here on the north coast
I think too it depends on the level of track you are conducting. It's very difficult to run 3, three mile long, 6 hour old tracks in a day. A guide I have used for years is stop before the dog quits, always leave the dog wanting more. But only the handler can tell when that is.
