While I certainly don't envy you your job in Isreal, it would be very interesting to see how you employ your dogs. We (I say we, but mean most of us trainer and EDD handlers in the US)generally do not have the intense working environment you must live with. Knowing that one of the odors you mentioned is quite prolific in your area, we don't have much training experience with it as EDD teams. Which is something we are trying to fix as soon as possible. By the way, you speak much better English than I speak Hebrew. Keep up the good work.

Edo, you asked why I am interested in this. Well I am amazed of the job these dogs are asked to do. What would we do without them. Another interest is exactly what you said in you're last post about the dogs being trained to locate but not touch, bite, or carry the bomb off. Wouldn't that be a huge scarey thing. What bloodlines do you think are the best for this type of work?

Yes I would like to be a certified trainer one day. I think dogs are amazing.

first, i would like to say bein in Gaza is not exectly what i would call a vacation in miami...lol so i can understand why you dont envy me...
on the other hand, things are not as bad as they seem. all you need to know is were not to go.
as for the employment i guss you will have to come over and see for your self or just ask me what ever you want to know.
i think training is what it's all about even if you dont work in gaza or as the personal white house k9 handler... lol im sure this guys work hard enough, alot of training and as much as posible exposiore to diffrent enviroments and places will produce a good working dog!
i guss when you say prolific you ment T.A.T.P, well it's not commonly used but when used right it's very destructive! the only thing is when not handled right, moving+ the right temp. somthing that happens quite a lot by the way, the next day you hear over at the news, building that got blown away becouse some idiot was trying to set up a bomb and had an accedent........
by the way yesterday we came across a new kind of matirial that they use to make bombs, i will get the name and let you know of it if. it's an organic fertilizer wich will be a problem to train on since it's used as spray for vegtibles and fruits so you can understand why it's a problem...!

in my opinion you can train any dog for it.
however, there are some bloodlines whe is better for work such as labrador retriver belgion malinois german sheperds we also use jack russel for small places. and we train them a little different then the others.

Just on the lighter side of things. I once saw a GS bomb dog in Orlando Florida that would sit for a second then hurriedly back up away from the odor. It was pretty amusing to watch. Obviously the handler saw this as a problem but I felt that the dog was smarter than us humans. Edo, Keep up the good work...Rebecca Good luck in achieving your goals....Howard
