Bear with me here, not really sure where else to put this and I am not even sure I should care at this point, but here goes.
I have been working with the Flinks method for about 2.5 months with my pup and have had great results so far. My daily routine includes a stop at a soccer feild to play some two toy retreive which I alternate with drive work, focusing, down stays, downs out of motion etc.
My question comes to leaving the field. I have one ball and he has the other. He will carry it for about 10 steps and then drops it. This only happens when we are heading back to the car and I honestly think he is doing it out of the idea that I will put him back into drive again. He has no problems when I have him carry in the circle.
I know one of the options is to not let him carry it off the field, but he is a bit chewy on the out as is. (meaning he will loosen his grip on the first command, but not enough to spit out the ball)
If you are using Bernhards approach, you need to review the video again. There is no two toy retrieve for a good reason. You don't trade the dog toys or use two.
The reason is simple..the toy is not the dog's it is yours, and success comes from being with and playing with the hadler, not running about chasing the ball.
Ok, miscommunication and a bit of mix and match going on.
So I should not continue with the two toy then? I had been doing that as a way to expend his energy more than anything on the days that I can't work him more than once because of classes.
I will watch the video again, but now that you mention it I remember that. oops.
Any other suggestions for exhausting the poor bugger? Keep in mind we STILL have snow here. I so wanted to come to NM.
