Thank you. That is exactly what I was asking, and your answer makes perfect sense. One follow-up. Will corrections in practical obedience effect your dog when it is in competition obedience mode. For example, if on the street I give him a command to do a loose heel -- a kinda walk with me command -- which I taught first motivationally with treats, etc..., and he knows the command, and then he disregards and I say "No", pop with prong, and repeat command. Will that type of correction effect his drive in competition obedience -- for example when I command fus? I have barely used any compulsion in my competition training, and he is doing great and loves it. I would not want practical obedience corrections to take anything away from that.
Oh yeah, how do you teach your practical obedience? Teach with treats, then correct once the dog knows the commands, then proof?
