My name is Mike Burke I own two American Bulldogs. A five year old female and a 18 month old male. His Sire has a Sch title.
My question is about my male. I started him in Schutzhund @ 5 months old he was doing well and I had to stop the training because I moved. I have no helper around to do the bite work. I have been doing his obedience and tracking on my own.
The reason the training stopped is because I moved about two hours away from the club and I bought a house that needed fixin'. So, all my time has been going towards the house.
I have completed all the hard work on the house and I have the time now to resume the training full throttle. The problem is that my dog has not had any bite work training in 4-5 months. Oh, and he has never bit a sleeve, just rags and the bite tug. Will this be a problem because of his age, meaning to late? He has very high prey drive for the bite tug, he goes nuts when he sees the handler with it.
After a 1.5 year hiatus from bitework... my dog didn't forget! He knew what he was doing before he got out of the truck. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> They don't forget something they love!

I don't think its too late at all, If he has the drive like you say he does, he should do fine. I've seen 3+ year old bulldogs that have never seen a sleeve before hit one pretty decent with out any prior training. Don't let the time gap discourage you. by the way, I also have an American Bulldog (standard) who i recently started training in the sport. What lines is your bulldog out of? Good luck.
